Quote: You're asking some CSR in California to take your word for it based on an electronic complaint. So not true, the CCW has plenty of experts, one of them is a well known member here. It is imperative that you use http://www.ebay.com/ccw rather than the standard reporting form linked to in the listing.

I can't see what makes them a fake.
That is the problem. With ebay expecting us to police their offerings, the average collector is a sitting duck. Red flags * Seller offering too many of the same thing * "Cleaned" which is a value destroyer. Especially insane on key dates which sell very well and at good prices.

Question..what about all the other buyers who dont know they have fakes? They're bound to resell many of them, muddying up the ebay waters even more and putting their own feedback at future risk.

Quote: check out sellers feedback now Very nice Mike. Too bad most/all of the people that already purchased these coins probably will not check back on the sellers feedback to see this. At least it will serve as a warning for future buyers.

The automated reporting tool specifically for counterfeit coins (which many people use) does not allow for manual comment. I guess the question arises as to why bother having it at all if ebay doesn't react to it. I understand that many people here are aware of the process through the link, but essentially it's a back door process. Last but not least, can you walk us through what process ebay follows once an item is reported? Lets take this example http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Poland-5-zl-...em2ed2143e71Although the seller identifies it as a copy, it's still against policy to list this coin on ebay as the coin itself is not marked as such.

I appolagize, The link does work. For some reason it automatically redirects me to the .CA site where the link is not valid. I modified my post above as well.

The link redirected me to .CA too (page not available)- but I changed it manually to .COM and hit go, then it works.

Instead of taking the fake coin listings away we need to take the fake coins away, I don't know how to do that but this is very annoying. Every coin that's fake is really rare so if you buy it you loose more money. To me its sad to think that in the 60`s there was a stronger chance of a coin being real. If you see a fake coin, melt it... please

I was reading on the main coin forum that ebay has disbanded the coin community watch group. Swamper bob who was part of it has some posts discussing it. If this is true, what is a collector supposed to do in relate to these modern Chinese fakes. Maybe someone can look into this and report back. I'd like some clarification regarding what's happening.

I just joined this forum, and ask your forgiveness as I ask a naive question. Rather than expecting ebay to be able to do something about counterfeit coins, can't these be submitted to the appropriate government. What is the difference between me trying to pass off fake $20's, and somebody selling fake pennies for $20, except if I were passing off fake money I wouldn't av=dvertise it world-wide.

This seller has 27 completed listings, 26 of which sold and one did not. Not including shipping, before taxes, cadi306 sold $761.97 worth of these fake pennies. It baffles me that it took this long for anyone to realize. These get sold for $1.50/piece on AliExpress with free shipping, with fees from ebay, this guy made about $650 profit. That is basically a free Genuine version of the 1925 in MS-60 Red, just by stealing from 26 unsuspecting ebay users. Everyone educate yourself, don't get sucked it. Scams are everywhere, the most ebay will usually do is just delete the user, and in 2 months he's back up doing the same thing with a new account.

These coins do look pretty bad. I avoid any listings with bad photos where I can't make out any details on the coins, and a lot of sellers have bad pic's. That doesn't mean they are fakes, but I want to know what I'm getting. I am a bit amused with totally dark pictures and the statements in the description that they don't know how to grade, so grade it yourself from the pic's.
Anyway, what I'm wondering in this posting is how do they profit from fakes? They have to create some sort of die, and then press planchets into coins. That seems like it would be really expensive, unless they are casting them, but these don't look like castings to me. (I could be wrong) I know they are selling a fair number of them, but isn't it really expensive to fake these coins? I would expect to see fakes on more expensive coins. Has technology evolved to where this is profitable?

I may have spoken too soon. The big pictures of the fake nickels really do look cast to me. Are these investment, lost wax castings?
