I'm with Flippy at 'good VF' to 'about EF', with milder toning and some lighter marks.

Nice coin!

There is so much wear.It might reach GF but no more.
Ok I'm using UK grading standards but AU is laughable as is EF.

You're maybe forgetting that UK grading is .. different enworb. I don't know if it's more stringent. But by UK standards it'd be around Fine with the reverse a bit better to my eyes too.

It makes it difficult sometimes to make comparisons between different countries. And when discussing early milled or hammered, well ... let's just say I ignore whatever anyone else says and make up my own mind 99% of the time.

This is a PCGS graded 1915 Shilling XF45 http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/17245173/

I think the coin posted by stevo1962 is nicer

Which would seem to give it a shot at an AU...

Well said jdmern .I've had Australian experts suggest grades of AU53 to AU58 but I don't think it will make AU58. I've taken a chance and paid good money for it so only time will tell if it was a good choice

The following is a link to ANDA's grading article, which I would suppose would be a fair reference point when assessing Australian coins, particularly given that most valuation catalogues in Australia are primarily based around ANDA's perspective, or at least the members of ANDA's perspectives.

http://www.anda.com.au/resources.asp

Just putting it out there as relevant information, rather than trying to open a can of worms. In the end grading is subjective, and recognised as contentious. It obviously also varies between countries and systems.

I would always suggest to anyone that forming your own position is important, as is making purchasing decisions based on your own position. (then you are unlikely to be disappointed, so long as the coin is accurately imaged and is the coin received.)
