I posted a pic of this coin a few months ago and was hesitant in doing so b/c it looked like a disaster...and it still looks like a disaster lol! But hopefully now some people out there can see what a big deal this coin can and will be. At least I think it will be. I am unsure of the date and I don't want to speculate. I don't even want to speculate what the initials/numbers/whatever is at the top of the coin. The point is it shouldn't be there. I have spent a lot of time with this coin and in the beginning you couldn't even make out the shield. It had some purple powder residue on it that I have found on some other interesting coins that turned out to be awesome so I decided hey what do I have going on other than to dig in and try my patience lol! An interesting fact is that we proposed a 2 cent in 1806 and made patterns in 1836 which never have been found from what I understand so whatever this may be I look forward to seeing the end result, as I hope you do too. Oh BTW the SLQ is still an A OK for those that wondered. Enjoy!

PROPOSED is the operative word for 1806

and

1836 patterns look like this....

Maybe I should have waited longer lol! So the raised area at the top is supposed to be there? If it was not raised up to the other fields I would agree but I guess there is always that possibility...

This probably won't be of much help but when the coin was in a solution it would light up like a Christmas tree with a variety of bright neonish colors. I actually kept two coins in there blackish blah state so if this is anything I will have 2 examples to study whatever this could be. One is an IHC and the other a colonial. I think it is unique and wild even if it isn't anything. Here is an example which probably isn't the best

Throwing in the towel. The feedback on my coins that I have considered important makes me feel like I have gone critically insane...

It's awesome to be passionate about coins and studying them.

But stop making every coin you've posted about out to be some sort of trial piece, pattern or rare error piece. You make these wild claims with little to no proof.

Keep on collecting and posting Hflirn. Who knows one day you might find something good (DDO, DDR, a variety, etc.)

Yes you have an excellent point but this is all I have been really trying to focus on for some time. I have emailed Museums, people that I looked up to and got me involved with Numismatics, organizations like Coneca for assistance. On a few of my posts I asked where I could have something attributed and how to go about the processes. I literally have not get one reply on all of the above. I feel like me, myself, and I and I have been patient in my mind but I'll figure it out I guess even if I have to take on a second job or hold a sign on the aide of the road reading "need donations to grade my quarter". I post stuff that raises question. I'm not referring to this community at all and you help so many people. But when I contact third parties about possibility coins, even if I'm wrong, and not to get a response to me is like driving by a rare car on the side of the road and instead of stopping to get that thing home safe, they would just prefer say hey not my problem.

You know how I like transitional pictures! I couldn't sleep knowing that there are more torturous pictures that I haven't spread around yet Oh and Robbudo thank you. I sent some stuff off already. First for everything. Now I can get a high vote on whether I should be committed lol! I still like this coin and I have been taking better pics slowly but surely. I don't expect a response to these pictures. I just wanted to show a couple pics of other side of coin...

I share and admire your enthusiasm about coins, Hflirn. Also, I like the fact that you have a very inquisitive mind. That said, I have yet to see any significance to your purported finds ... the pieces, themselves. IMHO, in your effort to find some significant rarity, something to which we coin collectors all aspire, you seem to be trying too hard. In effect, mind you, I'm reminded of the story of the little boy who cried wolf. While we want to share your enthusiasm and joy in finding some rarity (not seeing a wolf), we constantly see mostly low grade coins that are draped with shadowy illusions of grandeur ... the likes of which can be found in droves at local flea markets.

I certainly don't want to dampen your enthusiasm for studying coins and sharing your finds. Given my fifty-plus years of collecting, I have found many a rare one but never a circulated pattern coin as you seem to so often see in you mind's eye. I do have one pattern coin in my collection that I bought as such, an 1855 Flying Eagle cent. It's very worn, having apparently been someone's pocket piece, yet with a fully readable date and eagle. Such low garde patterns do exist, but they are so rare as to be virtually unobtainable. Such was the appeal of this "lowball" 1855 to me. Then too, there are far more 1856 Flying Eagles out there than 1855's.

My humble suggestion, Hflirn, would be to consider shifting your focus to error coins in mid-grade or better. Such a shift in interest would offer an abundant hunting ground and help sharpen your eye for variations in coin design and strikings. I'm rooting for ya!

Raymo ... I believe that I have a pic of the 1855 on my old laptop. I'll see if I can find it and start a new thread under Classic Coins.
