I have what appears to be a Matron Early Copper Penny with four lugs stamped around the edge on obverse and reverse that seem to allow the coins to interlock when stacked. I have been unable to find any reference to this variant.

Any Thoughts?

Thanks!

Thanks Numismat, I thought that might be the case. Now I'm just left to ponder the purpose since it appears to have been deliberate.

Thanks
Again!

Most likely it was mounted on something. That was my first thought when I saw the holes.
