From the batch I got on Friday. Too bad they are in rough shape, I almost put them in my "spend for fun to see people's reactions" pile.  That AAX is an almost radar! Only if it were 30 notes higher. Does anyone know if it would still be on the same uncut sheet?  NK8899100 has a nice pattern to it, but is it a special serial number and will it have a premium? |

 AAX and EAX are replacement notes- there are lithographed and steel engraved notes...I don't think your serial's are Special..But for me because I don't have them yet it is the Prefix's I enjoy...I need NK and GY and lots more as well yet..And You know that your GY does not have an asterick in front of it * so it is not a Replacement... That Radar 30 notes higher-unlikely because sheets of 40 skip numbered in jumps of 500..Then after cut the bricks have 500 consecutive numbered notes ...Think of brick here..After 1979 not many intaglio steel engraved-only lithographic process..  So I guess that back in 1970's would have had to buy 30 bricks (Or the perfect one)to get the radar You speak of-Provided the BofC didn't do something to wammy it even then already..Uncut sheets of 40 were BAX, and EAX, and others but not AAX. Oops  I thought as long as the letters are the same they are replacement. Do you collect by prefixes persistnt? |

Yes, I only started couple months ago to collect by Prefix..Not much of a change though from my collecting for Year previously..The 1.oo's and 2.oo1986 are plenty full, which is good, but there is also a ton of prefix's here to collect...I made the error of what exactly is a Replacement (* for 1954,,,)note too..Would look the same as your GY but as the Americans would say needs a star before the *GY ,,..  especially the 5., 10.ooPolymers by Prefix-maybe without Replacement notes prefix though  Edited by persistnt

$500 to find 1 $1 radar note?  I think I'll pass. I don't collect by prefix but I just collect it if it looks nice  |

The $500.oo was to buy one brick...I was able to do it once in Jan. that is: used my $500.oo to buy a bundle of five dollar bills-look through them, then take back like 460.oo to the bank for deposite..I was trying to answer the question of radar 30 notes ahead..

I understand your explanation, but I think that is a lot of notes and serial numbers to look at! I wouldn't have enough attention span to do it.

It really isn't that difficult... but 100 notes is considered a bundle.... 10 bundles is considered a brick...
So one brick = 1000 notes.....

That I can't afford, I don't have a thousand dollars Maybe sometime in the future. I'll need $5000 to buy a brick of fivers though. |

I was going to the bank the last 2 weeks, couple times each week with only 110.oo to change for more bills..I changed back and forth between 10's and 5's..so they don't give me my same notes back...ONly 1 or 2 times in 6 months did I change 500.oo/with only one return trip to bank.Then had payments to make and money was gone...I say to go with just the Polymer5 or just the 10.oo is easy and not complicated like the 1973 and 1986.Series..

You would fast enjoy Polymer collecting if at one of your trips to bank You found a Gem Replacement note..AgCoinMan has what letter Prefix and numbers are Replacement..(On other threads)..Here is question for all- How much would you pay for a Sheet replacement?How much for a single note replacement bill?/.In CU grade they are worth 80-90.oo for one and certain letter replacements go for 140.oo (Yes for one note)(CU of course)..Also nice to find a Radar frontier series 5 in bank change- I save most but took one to Local coin club meeting and sold it to a friend for 25.oo real money (The Bay was selling at that time for 32.oo even more for GEM)..  Those 1973 pictured above are worth 1.30-1.80 as my guess...Still more than a Dollar- to a friend 1 dollar..  So don't ask me how come I buy those 73 and 86 2.oo's-If I was smart all my spare money would go to Polymer notes..  Edited by persistnt

In my discussions with a few others there is a reluctance to hold onto and search for replacements.. I would go as far as to say some note collectors aren't even collecting replacements anymore.
If I find a replacement note I hang onto it but I don't think I would pay for a poly replacement note. As for which hold more value.. Just looking at past issues it looks very close but single note replacements may edge out if only slightly if the numbers I'm reading and the way I'm reading them are correct sgl note replacements have done a bit better.
So hold onto them if you like.. But don't anticipate that this series of polys replacements will do as well as the asterisk replacements of the 54 & 70's issues

I don't think I'll be really into polymer notes now, I think I just like old stuff, especially ones that are way older than I am Plus I just like the feel of paper. All my bills so far were bought at face value, including that crisp Devil's Face '54. To be honest I wasn't even able to see the devil (I thought it was a modified one), until I scanned it and a smaller image of the bill showed up on my screen. I've found the thread though, and I've saved it for reference. I'll certainly check every polymer bill I bring home  |

The great thing about working on current issues is that you can get really high quality notes all for face value

True that. I could just pick out notes from change. Most of them I receive are starting to look crumpled up though.
Or I can just ask the bank to replace them with crisp notes for me maybe? Don't know if they'll do it but no harm asking.
I got a (probably abused) 2004 $20 from the bank earlier, it has so many tears it looks worse than some of the 1973 $1s.
