I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered previously. With the new polymer notes in circulation, what is the status of any older cotton fibre bills? Are they going to remain legal tender, or must they be exchanged for the new style by some date? I realize this has to be common knowledge for every Canadian... Colligo ergo sum

Legal tender still in circulation. Lots of 5s and 10s floating around still.

They're still legal tender... banks as they get them.. and if they're really in poor condition they send them off to be destroyed... so in a year or so most paper will be out of circulation...
Funny .. the RBC (my local bank) actually gave me a few hundred pencils for my students that were made from recycle paper fibers from the bank notes.. at least that's what the bank manager told me..

All Canadian currency is legal tender no matter how old. If you had a 1923 $1.00 bill you could still spend it.....but then again, I would get it from you.

I was thinking with 5.oo's 60 %polymer and 10's only 40% are polymer more are the old ones. legal tender always is good, but did yu know not copyright...The 1954 notes are almost dropped from copyright by Canada's Government....Soon will not illegal to print- but Caution as still cannot counterfeit... , good question.

It really is a big guess based on 3 banks all in 'toon where I live.Other provinces will be different....Just personal as I hav gone through bills and see what notes tellers hav in drawers....What someone said about a year yet I say is good guess I concure...Thinking about it is verified by 20's and 50's being polymer, out longer than 5*10's out since Nov13.

..back to origianal question.,..good one by the way..In circulation right now (Isay with 99% certainty)You would not find any Journey series without the S.Strip..A bank is not circ, so If you ask their, at some branches they may have a five or ten to give you out of notes they have filled out paperwork to send back to Central bank and then B of C..In fact right now in general circulation it would be hard to find an early journey series note as well- example 2006 or 2008 note...
