I just wondered if anyone else has this coin. It's interesting, because this design was the runner up to the Washington quarter Dollar design, and the modeler, or die cutter, was the wife of the man who won the design that is used on our quarters. It was taken from a bust of Washington that is on display in his home today. There are only approximately 20,000 of the mint version, and I believe thirty odd thousand were stamped in the proof version. The eagle on the back is awesome, and I wish that it had been chosen as our quarter's design.

Are you talking about the 1999 George Washington $5 gold commemorative?

If so, the design was created by Laura Gardin Fraser back in the 1932 design contest. She was the wife of James Earle Fraser.

The design by John Flanagan was chosen by the Treasury Secretary Mellon.

Yes, it is the 1999 Washington, and I love it. I will dig it out of the safe and get a picture of it. Thank You for the hearty welcome!
