i was wondering why the 1941 shilling of 360000 strikes would fetch anywhere from 40 in vf to 125 in xf and 250 in ms60, according to ngccoin's price guide, while other new Zealand coins like the 1942 florin, the second lowest by just 10000 strikes to 1944 fetches so much less. were there some of their numbers melted down or is there just not enough demand or perhaps more mint state pieces have been graded of those coins?

this is a little bewildering as I can't expect to fork out so much more for a coin struck in greater quantities and is smaller anyway and perhaps(according to personal preferences) less easy to appreciate than larger coins.

Those prices are not realistic, NGC uses the prices from the Krause books. In reality, you can only expect market prices to be accurate with catalog is for nice mint state pieces.

2012 NZ catalogue just Uncirc values (mintage numbers in brackets) converted to US$.
41 schilling(360,000) $806.00
42 Florin (150,000) $552.00
44 Florin (140,000) $ $764.00

More than likely the 41 schilling is worth more because very few survived in Uncirc condition
