I'd love to have the opportunity, though I doubt I have enough time before I die to do it all.
Since there are lots of base metal coins, I wonder if the silver is really 470 pounds in weight.

That is a phenomenal hoard. If I had the money, maybe I'd shoot him an offer of $100,000. Looks like there's some nice stuff in there, NGC, PCGS, ANACS, ICG plus stuff from Major Auction Houses like Stacks and Bowers and Heritage. I see a couple coins that was in the $2000-$5000 range each.

Also, as it's just been pointed out, my budget falls substantially short of the $195,000 price, unless I start buying lottery tickets and am unbelievably lucky.

I wonder how they came up with their asking price. And also what may have been or will be stripped out.

Yeah, a huge gamble. You know that they've gone through it and know the value. Probably worth less than 100K.
Definitely adding to my watch list.....will be fun.

Won't get the 'buy it now price'; the risk at that scale is just too great. The hoard needs to be broken up into smaller specialist lots where there is accurate and detailed description. That is going to take some work, but that work would be well justified, to get a better price for the individual lots. It seems to me that the seller is lazy, or just doesn't know how to handle a hoard this big. Perhaps a better approach would be to pick out the real 'cherries' from this hoard, and if appropriate, sell them via standard public auction, where the auctioneer's fees could be justified. Perhaps ebay some of the other lots.

True, they already know the value so they went through it. Not like you bought some bag of coins where the seller has no clue about coins. Plus, not much a market for foreign coins here in the US outside of selling it for the silver.

No way ... this is a major gamble that 99.9% of the educated collectors will avoid. Fun to look at indeed. David

If I win the lottery Friday I'll put a bid on it and hope I don't die before getting all the way through it. Nice

Now that is a hoard!
Not for me, I do not have that kind of money and this is a HUGE gamble, and one I am not willing to take.
What if he puts up a lot like this one, but with all U.S. coins?
