Hi, I have just recently started to collect coins and came across this 1964 D penny. Can anyone tell me if this is a repunched mint mark or ?

Thanks!

There is one RPM that looks like the shape of your coins mint mark, but the RPM has more going on with it than you coin has. A closer image might reveal more, but it may not as I should be able to see it on the image provided. So if you can get a closer image of the mint mark, that would be nice.

Thanks for your help, Coop. Not sure I can get a closer image of the mint mark but will give it a try and post it if I am successful.

Here is another picture with as close an image that I am able to get of the penny showing the mint mark...hopefully this will help.

If this is not a RPM, then what might cause the D to look different from a normal mint mark?

Thanks!

I don't see any split serif but the south west portion of the mint mark looks wider could be PMD. Coin looks as if it was cleaned.

A slight amount of tilting which might create a RPM. But there is no separation. So it is a normal mint mark. These are punch many times. The corresponding hits canceled any spread. I have many tilted RPMs that are showing split serifs, they are too minor to list. The stronger the better on RPMs.
