On the date it is machine damaged on the right side of the digits. Note how they are reduced in width because the machine pushed them to the left. The overall size of the devices are there, just reduced by machine damage. Here is another illustration to help to understand Machine Doubling.
1971-Penny.-Is-It-DDO?-Please-Help.
Note the die was normal and the machine damaged area on the illustration is pushed toward the right. Note the darker shaded area on the lower illustration. The denotes the area the machine damaged happened and reduced the overall size of the upper devices. So when looking down from the top it appears that there is a doubled area. This is not a doubled die, but machine damage. If it were a hub doubled die, then the devices would be enlarged on the die and on the coin as seen in the second illustration.

Note the extra device in this image on the die? This will show as a doubled die on all coins struck from this die.

On the OP's coin it is showing Machine Doubling the the right side of the devices on the date and LIBERTY. There is some Die Deterioration as well on the coin, but the altering of the date and LIBERTY is machine damage.

I am still working on the DDO and this is yet another excellent lesson. I have found a few and will post later to verify. It takes a while to figure out but I could tell right away this was machine doubled/damaged. Thanks again COOP!
