I was doing a little arithmetic on Q. David Bower's estimates of the extant populations of Morgans. For all dates and mintmarks, the total just in condition MS65+ comes in a low of approximtely one and a quarter million, with the top at about two million. That's pretty remarkable. Not an endless supply of high end Morgans, but seemingly plenty enough to go around, certainly more than I would've thought offhand. If you can put up with mere MS64's, the number remaining becomes several times that MS65+ figure.

Still, I suppose someday collectors will be looking back wistfully at an era like this where you can go into almost any coin shop and select an affordable BU Morgan.

Kind of like how we look back at the days when you could get a 1,000 coin bag from the bank....I'm still waiting for a bag of '93-S to show up.

High end Morgans in common dates that aren't condition rarities will always be affordable, unless you somehow think the US rare coin market will grow to a point to generate enough demand to double or triple the price of coins like the 48,000+ examples of a single date like '81-S in PCGS 65.

I have often wondered at the possibility of a long lost bag of Morgans in some old bank still undiscovered. Ohhh the stuff I dream about.
