Well, in a sense. It's actually a 1955, but the 5's look like squared 9's. I found this in my collection recently and just wanted to share. Oh, and there's a crack at about the 5 o'clock on the reverse going into the wheats.

Two things...

first, it's not a Cud. That term is reserved for coins struck with dies that have pieces broken off the edge. So, Cuds always affect the edge of the design at the rim.

Second, 1955S-1MM-002, an RPM, has a mintmark position similar to that coin, and in later stages has die breaks inside both of the upper 5s of the date. Looks like you could have one of those, but not so fast...

A LOT of 1955 cents, especially D and S mint have die breaks in the date. Just a really bad year for cents.

Never knew that. So it's a die break then?

Die chips, die cracks, die breaks...whatever a person wants to call them, but they are not Cuds.

In checking with the Coppercoins site, The coin above appears to be an earlier view than the 1955S-1MM-002. The MDS view does not show the chips, or broken portion in the date, as does the LDS view. This makes me think this coin is MDS, but still -002. Chuck, care to comment?
Later.Comparing the rev views, tells me it is NOT the same die!, so it can't be the 1955S-1MM-002, instead, it is a different die. In fact, it looks a lot like the 1955S-1MM-011. The rev photo does not have enough clarity to be sure, so I say it LOOKS a lot alike.
