The Memorial cents leave that type of pattern on the dis clashes. The vertical look of the column edges on the obverse die give the name of a Jail house Cent. The wheat Cents leave an entirely different pattern on the obverse. But comparing overlays you can see the target areas of the die clash remnants. These usually mark the field areas of the where the patterns of letters/numbers/devices hit. Just the outside edges of the dies make contact, thus just the marks in the fields only. The lower part of the dies don't receive marks, just where the two dies touch each other. Usually after being noticed a mint worker cleans or polishes the die to remove these marks. Usually they use a wire brush and it leave die scratches in that area to cover the die clash marks. I would show images, but I'm only a beginner here and can't post images yet.

For those of you who can't wait, Coop has posted a pair of overlays, that will showw all, on our "other forum", coppercoins.com. I just saw it a few minutes ago. Look under "General discussion-error coins".
