Probably thread. I see a lot of red thread on the coins from time to time. I'm not sure where that is from though. Wire would be a lot larger. It is incuse, correct?

I'll tell ya what coop,I really can't tell...using a 16x loupe and every angle and light with my eyes this is a tough one-best I can tell its in the coin and part of it is closer to the surface than other parts? Gonna try have my wife or daughter look at this later today see what they think-I can feel a raised surface or and incuse area there with my finger at all either-I sure can't tell difference between a thread and wire this being a first for me so nothing to go on-just looks very rigid to me and the end looks very flat/blunt unlike a thread would but I have no idea and your right about it being small for a wire I just have no idea what kind of materials they use at the mint-thanks for looking

Most likely struck through a thread, Mint workers wear gloves when handling proofs and the dies are constantly wiped to maintain the cleanliness of the brilliant polished surfaces.
