Since there's no chance of either an S or VDB hiding under any dirt, I'd say leave it as-is. Acetone might not hurt the coin, but it won't clear up anything that could boost the value either. If it ain't broke...

Thanks guys. After looking at the prices I think I'm just going to put it in a 2 x 2 and see if I can get a better one for the album. They seem to be relatively cheap for a decent grade. According to Numismedia anyway.

I would also agree of it being a dug coin, but very nice find for a 105 year old coin.

Nice find! VF-25/30 too.
Acetone would be futile, there's nothing you can do to make it look better other than leaving it on a window sill for a year or two.

Absolutely no reason at all not to give it an acetone bath. Let it set in some for 24 hours and see if it removes anything. Nothing lost doing so.
