Will I ever be satisfied? Serious question. Am I the only one? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Fully satisfied...? No.
As a collector of coins for 40+ years, I can say that there are plateaus. At least in my case, you go through periods of rapid transition where you buy and/or sell to update your collection. Those periods are followed by savoring your new coins, or finding better ways to store/display them. Rinse and repeat...

Have you seen the movie, "Fifty First Dates" with Adam Sandler and Drew Berrymore? How cool would it be if your family rerolled your entire coin collection every night and let you think you found a huge hoard at the bank every day of your life!! Christmas everyday for the rest of your life!!

No way! Bought a friends coin collection when I started consisting of mostly Canadian Cents, Dimes, Nickels, Quarters, Halfs, and Dollars, and went right to starting my own sets, plus adding to the sets I bought!! I can't get enough silver Dimes and Quarters, or older Nickels.. or.. well, you get the idea.. Don't get me started on American currency! same story!

Because I'm constantly learning and because my tastes get better with age, I am constantly looking to upgrade my coins with better examples in higher grades.

I do not think I will ever be satisfied. I will complete a set and then upgrade it as much as my wallet permits me to.

Just to make sure I'm never satisfied I took the plunge into the "Everyman" set on the PCGS registry. Not the type one, but the whole enchilada, 2597 coins. Of course I'll never complete it in my lifetime which is just fine by me. I have far more fun working on a set than actually completing one.

Quote: Because I'm constantly learning and because my tastes get better with age, I am constantly looking to upgrade my coins with better examples in higher grades /\ This. I'm discovering some common coins are almost impossible to get in better conditions. And though the occasional rarity is nice, I'm starting to find I like the higher grades, so have switched my main focus to picking up any I see. And upgrade the others when possible ... I'm gradually trying to sell on the coins that no longer please me. But probably there will always be one or two which, as the overall quality of the collection improves, stand out as not so great. But then if I was entirely satisfied, what would motivate me to carry on collecting?

I've purchased more books this year than coins--I am diving into the world of numismatic material, I don't think I'll ever get my library stocked to my satisfaction.
Coin wise, some sets I am satisfied with and others I'm not. I don't see myself ever being satisfied completely.

The never ending hunt will always keep me entranced with the hobby ... and I will never be done with additions/upgrades/downgrades until the day I pass from this earth.

while I have been sorting cents, I have noticed that the zinc cents are not going to hold up to MR. TIME like the copper cents have..that said,,in a couple of years , as the zinc gets trashed..collecting is going to be a bit different..more expensive for zinc's
