Do you have pictures? I've had some sellers send me coins in vacuum sealed plastic like one would use for food - I believe these might be safe for coins since they're safe for food.

I like your logic Come to think of it, if the coins are vacuum sealed there shouldn't be any air or moisture coming into contact with the coin therefore it sounds good but I wonder about the plastic wrapping .....

One would need to know a bit about the composition of the plastic material. Some plasics may contain compounds that can react with metals.

Firstly, you made me worry because when I read your thread title, I thought asyn was going to charge a shipping fee (as Canada Post increased its fees).

About your question, I'd open the plastic stuff.

It's a fairly good rule of thumb - food safe is coin safe.

I got some coins from them like this all sealed up. I wouldn't trust the plastic. I took mine out and put them in a 2x2 flip. Way easier to organize in a 2x2 flip anyway

Often I see people ask about the material, but not about the coin. Copper, silver, gold, and nickel are all different, and what is safe for one may not be for another. So, what kind of coins are they?

Well, some cursory research have only yielded that the material in most FDA approved food vacuum bags is Nylon Poly... I'm no chemist but I have a feeling that could mean a lot of different things... Pretty sure poly can a have a whole lot of different things on the end of it? :)

Poly just indicates that it is made up of many linked similar or identical units. Polystyrene is a long chain molicule made up of linked styrene molecules. Likewise polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl-chloride etc.

It really has me cutting back on how much I bid and buy from Asyn's site. The coins in original packaging the shippings very expensive! Plus you need at least 3 items to save 30% on shipping. It can get pricy fast when bidding on these type of coins. Yet in order to save 50% on shipping you need 9 or more wins, and cannot be mixed with the $3 shipping coins. I certainly don't have the resources, or it can be challenging to find 9 items a person wants. I have 2 wins and I'm struggling to get my third, so I can save on shipping. I keep losing by a bid. This works well for the seller, as each items gets more bids. I've got 1 more day to win an item.

It really be mix & match shipping prices for the discount. It would be easier for buyers. It just occurred to me, it might have something to do with the different ID's.
I guess I was spoiled for too long lol.

What makes you think the bags are safe for food? Most of our food isn't safe.

I bought some 90% dimes from the 'Bay a while back and they came shipped in a foodsaver bag. I left them that way for a while but after a year or so I checked up on them and the bag itself had started to develop cracks and was split open. So I threw away the foodsaver packaging and just used a freezer zip bag, which actually works much better. No big deal for junk silver but it could be a concern for quality coins.
