They are talking about eliminating it.
So, they'll do what they do with those useless Saci's-- include it in the mint & proof sets, to improve sales.

okay, someone else do the math.
PN = Total Cost to make Pennies and Nickels - Coin values * Mintage
SD = Total Cost to make State Quarters and Dollar Coins - Coin values * Mintage
SD - PN = How much the mint is supposidly losing.

Someone may have already done this math and figured out that by making the larger coins collectible it will offset the costs of making lower currency

I'm always amazed at how many people actually think the government cares about spending money foolishly.

According to the Mayan or Aztec calender, the end of the world is on December 21, 2012. So, anyone want to donate any coins to me?

Amazon99, do you know what time? I've got a lot of things to do in December so the time is important.

I think the most likely scenario for the penny will be changing it's composition - but there aren't many substances to go to that are cheaper than zinc except plastic.

I think its what Abe would have wanted (besides a log cabin made of composite materials).

Hmmm...I don't know what time, but I think it's some weird time that has repeating numbers or has the date in it like 12:21. Would any of those things happen to be "The Amazon99 end of the world donation fund"?
Rest in Peace

I heard they were going to produce them until 2109. When they attempt to do it I'm going to protest vigorously!Let's see, I'll be 155 years old so maybe it will be a more subdued protestMike

A hundred years of Lincoln cents is long enough. I'd say get rid of old Abe and find a new replacement. I know a lot of people will not agree with this.

I agree with you, even though I like the design, it's getting dated. Either a completely new design, or change the obverse or reverse of the coin. Whatever it is, I hope they don't turn it into "Lincoln Family Members Pennies--Collect all 300!--Starting with the 7th cousin, Beth!".

This could be a boon for penny candy manufacturers.

The sugar standard. Whoda thunk?

Steel or aluminum. Copperplated of course so as to fool the simple folks and keep them for confusing them for dimes.

No, just get rid of Lincoln by discontinuing the coin completely

The problem with aluminum is that they are too light for vending machines or weight issues. But when was the last time you saw a vending machine for a Cent? Probably Coinstar machine might have a problem, unless they just measured for size. Steel would work, even unplated. The copper color would be nice though. But I guess they don't ask me for my opinion.

I doubt we will ever have to worry about what to do with the Dollar bill, the cent, the nickel, the "Prsidents next.... and the Y2K problem, (which never existed, other than in their warped minds). I never had any problems with the generics. As long as those idiots on both side of the fence , in congress, keep stabbing each other in the back, they will never come to a decision on any thing! Anybody find anything odd about the Washington quarter? Some one in the NN mentioned that Mt. Raineer was erupting. I believe they were referring to the extrusions fronm the die cracks, that allows metal to be forced thru. (Just noticed something weird. When I was typing the post, I used a word, and when it was previewed, the word had been changed, I wonder if it will do it again: "Jassacks". Nope! You know where it fits, above.

Uhm if lincoln is no longer on the penny... I... I... I dont know what id do. Well I think that Lincoln should stay on the penny, and rather than replacing him, maybe him facing a different way like the westward journey nickels. Also maybe a new reverse like they have planned.
