I'm considering doing my first box of dimes soon, what are the drop rates on Mercury dimes?

drop, as in find? Dont do 10c, but scarcer than an indian head, buffalo, V nic,
frankie or WLH. Probably about par w/a readable shield.

I'd say about 1 in every 5 silver dimes I find is a merc. Not nearly as rare in my experience as a shield nic like fioti said.

I like your attitude jdavis! On par/w a readable shield doesn't sound right to me... Mercs had mintages wayyy higher than shields, but I think nickels may still be the way to go due to the amount of variety that you can find, thanks for the input guys.

I've never found one. Been through 10 boxes in the last six months and countless rolls. Someday! ;-)

Found a 1942 in a roll of cents a couple of weeks back. Someone used it as a filler.

I tried doing statistics on Mercury find rates once I averaged 1 for every 100 or so silvers for a while, Then I found a $500 box which produced 18 Mercuries, then a few months ago I found a cwr roll which produced 13 I would say right now for me it's around 1 Mercury for every 20 to 25 silvers

Having searched over a quarter million dollars in dimes, I was keeping track of finds but not anymore, no mercs this year yet, but that's because I've been hitting the cwr hard; searching boxes I believe my average was around 1 merc per $1.2K-$1.5K, or one every six boxes.
