There's some things like the mint mark on a penny that are really hard to see. How can I better magnify them. Currently I'm using a cheap digital microscope I picked up...

A digital microscope is a lot of magnification. I'm usually only using a 10x in-hand magnifier, and that's only to pick up faint scratches, hairlines under different lights. For something like a mintmark 5x should be plenty.

My favorite is a 10 x loupe but we also have 5x to 20x loupe with three lenses.

I have a double 5x + 7x Bausch & Lomb loupe that lives in a pants pocket, wherever I go.

I just take off my glasses and squint. If I can't see it, I take a photo of it then zoom it in on my computer. I borrow the bio lab microscope when I need real closeups, at 40x or 100x magnification, even though there's no way to focus on both the relief and background at the same time with that kind of magnification.

I tried that but found my arms were not long enough.

IMHO....if you need more than 10x to see it on a coin then it does not matter.

you will find a lot of great topics & information here. I like your question. I have a 40X loupe, a 10X loupe, and a 60X-100X microscope, I find each fun to use to see fine details. I usually just use the 10X loupe for general stuff though.

I have a 12X loupe but my eyes are still young and I don't use it too often.

A have a 7x Hastings Triplet Bausch & Lomb that I bought before a gold mining adventure in Alaska. Never saw any gold and spent a bundle on a crazy idea. I love the loupe and, I'm trying to make up the trip by using it on the coins. Expected year of break even 2050 I will be 100

At home, I use a LED lighted large magnifying glass that I bought at Big Lots. I attach it in a small, suction cup mount bench vise and it works great for going through coins.

I have a small 5x magnifier that I use when I need something more portable.

2) 18x cheap loupe

B&L 7x APO Triplet loupe, a 30x old Panasonic pocket microscope and a LW Scientific Stereo Scope (1.5x - 40x) at my desk.

The B&L 7x gets the most use, so much I've worn out 2 of them over the years!
