HA! Made you look It seems there hasn't been an unsearched ebay coin roll thread posted in a little while so hopefully that is a good sign that more new collectors and forum members aren't being duped.

I`ll chime in, if at least to hopefully help collectors newer at the hobby than me. I bought an "Unsearched" Wheat cent roll with a Mercury dime on the end, a couple weeks ago on ebay, and a lot of 25 Indian Heads. The Wheat Cents were ok, no key dates, and only a few with verdigris. The merc was very worn but hey, it was still one date I didn't have. The Indian Heads were a different story, absolute garbage, corroded like you wouldn't believe and most of them looked like they'd been used as an anvil in a metal shop, bent, cut, run over you name it. Moral of the story: Don't buy coins you can't see! expect the worst if you do! There's no such thing as an "Unsearched" roll! Someone had to package it and it's very likely they checked all the dates. You will most likely be getting culls. Another thing that gets me is the "Unsearched Estate Wheat cent rolls with Mercury dime and Indian Head on the ends." O.k. then, so how does the seller know it's a Wheat cent roll if they didn't open it? Don't fall for it, there's so many better deals out there, stick to reputable dealers like those here on CCF, these people know what they're selling. Most of the ebay sellers are just flipping the rolls to make money and don't know their product, or how significant damage or corrosion is to collectors. That's just my opinion though!

Why would someone pay more than face value for a regular bank box of coins? $599.00+shipping for a $500 box? what the? It's not like you can't go to the bank and buy a box or bag of halfs.

One possible explanation is that it doesn't occur to everyone that you can go to the bank and get boxes / rolls.
