It looked rare to me so I post it here now. It is likely the edge is strange but also the end of the coin. Looks like the coin is miss striked... I know the american worth is something else.. And aswell the D of 1958 could be some overstruck. Maybe D over S? I am wondering if someone knows more about this piece. I recall seeing a penny that was pressed into a larger metal disk (washer for lack of a better term) that had some engraved writing to the effect "Lucky Penny". 60s/70s advertising swag. It looks like that coin might have been pressed into a disk like that an freed sometime after. The coin may have been damaged on original placement and during removal and you are left with some 'witness marks'. Nice color and toning though. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/20/2014 10:21 am It can't be a D/S. The San Francisco mint closed in 1955. The 1955-S was the last year the "S" mint mark was used until the mint reopened in 1968. Business strike/proof cents were struck there until 1974. Since 1975 most proof coins are struck there. I agree with the encased damage theory. Nothing else could create a rim to look that in the normal minting process. Report this Post to the Staff
