My wife and I went on a two week vacation to celebrate our 50th wedding anniv. While searching for souvenirs and keepsakes I ran across a 1909-S VDB in uncirc. condition for $3.99! Just couldn't resist buying it for myself! Here are some pics:

Bought it at a Cracker Barrel restaurant, they are all over the south in case you want one too.

Mattheriley,

that's why I pictured the reverse first (or is it the obverse...keep getting confused on that) because the other side (obverse?) looks kinda hoaky and would be an instant give-a-way to the rouse. It is interesting though, guess it is supposed to be a coaster but I am using it for a paperweight. bob

Excellent deal! It's probably the deal of the century!
Now, could anyone explain me why it isn't genuine?
The details all look correct and good, the only thing I see that's strange are the extremely small coins in the background and a tiny hand.
BTW, I am thinking AU. I am seeing some light wear all around the coin.

Probably shelf wear, doubt it was in circulation. Good point about the small hand and coins, very unusual!

I think it is a fake...it is copper plated, not copper.

They also make an 1856 Flying Eagle and an 1877 Indian. I have all three sitting next to my home workstation, I use them as coasters. If I remember I'll post pictures of them together.
