It looks like the VAM 2 from your photos, I don't see any clashing or the mustache to make it the 2A or 2B.

It might have a small premium as a hole filler for a Top 100 VAM set, but it would not be more than a few dollars over spot. I would say the value is $25-$30 currently. These are available in MS condition for under $100.

Usually when you can find a list VAM easily in higher grades it will not carry much of a premium if any in lower grades and a harsh cleaning will completely destroy the numismatic value.

I agree with VAM-2. My guess would be as Kris stated, little to no premium in it's present condition.

The off angle photo may have gave question to the buyers as to if it had ever been cleaned. It never hurts to put the "TOP 100 COIN" or whatever list it is in the title. Your coin also looks AU or BU so I would have put that in the title too. The more words you put in the title that describe what they are getting the better off you are, because you will get more traffic to your auction.

I never do auctions on something I feel I can price, just so I don't end up losing the item for less than I feel it is worth. I do "buy it now" and take best offers.

This person sold one that is in grades lower condition than yours and got $75. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Great-Doubl...047675.l2557 Notice that they have clear pictures of the doubled ear and "Top 100" is in the title.

As I said above, these are fairly common in BU. Here is an NGC graded MS62 that only sold for $100. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1891-MORGAN...em58aee2082b

Mine had a ridiculously doubled ear and hair above the ear. I am just an absolute beginner novice with Morgans and even more so VAMs, so I was holding out to get something in MS-63 or higher...This one probably was not cleaned, as I saw zero striations or cleaning marks under my 8x magnification loupe. With its bag marks, and perhaps very minimal circulation, I would judge it as AU58....and I think I captured this fairly accurately in the description.

It's a shame it did not go for more, as this one even in AU-58 probably had a market somewhere in the 60-90 range.

Thanks for the pointers, as I really appreciate the honesty and feedback...it certainly helps newbies like me!

...in hindsight, I wish I would have kept the coin, but I have a strict budget with my wife and kids, and when I found a REALLY nice 1883-CC at my local shop that truly looked MS-64 in my estimation, I had to generate a few hundred bucks!
