Quote: there is no fw 334 around the E below the top left 1 There is not supposed to be. 'E1' is the position from plate 334 (and back plate 295) that this note was printed from in Fort Worth, Texas.

i looked it up online. type fw error 295 into a search engine. there should be several hits that explain what it it.
all in all - a fairly obscure (in my opinion) error. none the less an error. I'm certain note collector would consider it important.
i wish there was b bit less use of acronyms, and obscure references - without some clarification. it dose me no harm to looks things up - but it would be much simpler - if the posters would be a bit more informative.

Sorry, I should have explained it further in the beginning, and it is definitely pretty obscure but here's the explanation for anyone still wondering: http://snorkack.nfshost.com/fw295/Basically it's a note printed at Fort Worth that has a normal FW front plate but an erroneous back plate that matches what's normally used at Washington DC for printing.

Basically this is what happened: When the plate was made up, the font size for the plate number was set up wrong.
The back plate 295 is in the smaller font size used at the BEP in Washington. The FW BEP uses a larger font.

The only other "error" I see might be a wrinkle in the paper running across the portrait, left to right. Almost looks like it was in the paper before printing.

The 1st error was easy, it was the micro engraving number 295, the correct size for Washington D.C. Notes, undersized for Fort Worth Notes. The second error is a COPE "switched note" error. This happens when stacks of 32 subject sheets are trimmed in half vertically, and split into two stacks of 16 subject sheets. The Plate Position number on this note is E1, and received the serial number for Plate Position E3. The correct serial number for this note is H58561541E and not H61761541E I think it would be easier to post a link below that mentions switched plates instead of trying to explain it http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/lepe.htmlBelow is another switched error, this one has Plate Position C1, and printed with serial numbers for Plate Position C3. On the $50 & $100 Dollar notes, only 100,000 sheets are used, and to calculate the correct serial number plate position, it goes something like this. Take the serial number 27408156 and divide it by 3,200,000 ~ this gives us Run # 8.565049, we now minus the whole number only and use only the decimal .565049 and multiply it by 32, then round up to the next whole number. here we have 18.08157 that is rounded up to 19, and that my friends should be the correct plate position number. On the 32 subject sheet, plate position number 19 is C3 (2 quadrant difference from C1), proof that this note was switched.
