Looks like a lot of scratches/hairlines in the pics?

Your photos have a "tough to ascertain condition" aspect to them.

It might be better to photograph the coins face-on (with little offset angle) so we can tell the proper condition.

Given the photos you have given us: I see a nice MS coin that has been cleaned with unfortunate hairlines on it.

Cleaned, even worse than the last.

Do yourself a favor and go spend $20 on a slabbed MS65 common, no FB... that will be a nice reference coin for you. I'd sell you one out of my personal stash, but I don't have enough posts and all of mine are PCGS OGH, so I have an... attachment of sorts to them.

Not to hijack your thread with another coin and only to assist you so here is a proper photo taken simply with an iPhone as well as a problem free raw example so you know what to look at when in your LCS

Interesting that someone mentioned "cleaned".
My LCS Golden Eagle, says they "dip" all their coins, and even send dipped ones out to be graded, he says the graders don't consider a dipped coin, as a "cleaned" coin. they aren't brushed or anything like that.

So what's the story?

Over dipping and rubbing and cloth etc...

The coin you've posted, and it's based on the images which is why head on shots are the best ones to put, shows fine hairline scratches throughout the mirrors which is an indication that someone may have rubbed it and dipped it therefore ruining the value in making it not so problem free

Graders may not consider a dipped coin clean as long as it has been dipped properly the problem is most people do not know how to get properly and should stay away from dipping altogether

In the case of this dime.. it must have been cleaned many, many years ago. As this one, before he dipped it, had considerable toning on both sides.
This is a birth year set for my mom, so I wanted "shiny" pieces for her.

I will take some better pictures.. Perhaps I will just use my cell camera to produce images like the poster's above.

Along with these coins I picked up a MS65 quarter and a MS63+ CAC, half.

I don't see evidence of a dip here, I see a coin that got the business end of either a brush or a polishing cloth.

you didn't see the coin before it got dipped by the LCS. That is why I say, it must have been cleaned a long time ago.

i put a 1946 birth year set for my mom last year. I took all PCGS and cracked them out and put them in the pink capital plastics with the stand. It looks awesome and even though she knows nothing about coins, the novelty and uniqueness of the gift is something she loves

its a great idea
i'd stick with an NGC or PCGS MS64/65 for a $20 bill truth told, you'll be better off and the set will have more consistency to the eye based on the others you have already purchased

chasingtailbar...

You don't understand.. I was looking at the coin, it was toned. He dipped it after I decided to pick it up. I wanted the toning gone, so it would be "shiny".

...You had it dipped? Okay, I don't see the benefit in doing that on a $10 coin, but whatever floats your boat.
