TC3...

In your original posting you said your GF's mom said "a guy brought in 40$ in quarters to cash in and she opened them up to put them in the register and saw they were 90% silver and she bought them"

Then you said later they were "opened long after they were found".

It can't be both.

You are 100% correct.

I guess you have nailed him. Enough?

I caught TC3 mistake === also.

Personally I place this individual (the seller of the coins) with the Lazy, Ignorant, Stupid, Uninformed, or maybe a thief. At least he was not someones Gran' Kid.

Advice for the newbies. If you get a wind fall on AG === or AU === just keep it to your self.

I went into a bank about 7 months ago and got 5 rolls of halves. 97 of the 100 coins were silver. I look at it this way, Whoever turned them in made a mistake. Nothing I can do about that. All I know is someone is going to get that face value silver. Might as well be me. It never even crossed my mind to feel bad about that!!

Great Score TC3! Enjoy it. I would!!

Yes, she opened the quarters when they needed the quarters, not immediately. That's what I meant in my original post. Sorry, I was excited. You're really trying to bash me about this and it's quite childish. Holy cow....

I am not "bashing" you about this. If you take it that way then you need to go back and reread every post I've written in this thread.

I hypothesized some situations where if coins were mistakingly cashed in accidentally (or by a thief), and the panicked owner (or the police in case of a theft) inquired about them what would people do IF they knew exactly what happened to them.

I think that the answer from most people was "too bad, so sad". If that is the group you and your GF's mom are in then so be it.

As a society most really could care less how the coins got there. All they know is someone else's misfortune is not "their" problem. They have the coins, screw the guy that that may have accidentally messed up and cashed em in or got hit by a thief.

Until it happens to them, or to someone they know, then those opinions won't change.

Enjoy the coins.

I wonder what the owner of the business your gf's mother works at would say if he/she was aware that $600 of their property was exchanged for $40 in fiat currency?

Sorry, couldn't resist the opportunity to

While I had a small business (many) years ago === I sincerely hope my wonderful employees grabbed off all the silver. One of my best ladies once told me she got 2 Morgans, and ask me if I wanted them. I did want them, but it was a better deal to just tell her to keep them. She was sooooo happy.

I personally may have got maybe a very few Barber half dollars, Quarters, and a few Walkers. My wife and I were only in the store one day a week === Saturdays. The store ran on AUTO pilot 300+ days a year.

My only main business concern was the total gross daily deposit. Pitiful me.
