1854 P $5 Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle, Double Die Observe Hey everybody, It's been an insane amount of work and research, but I am back with an (almost) fully inventoried and organized coin collection found hidden at my grandma's, following her passing a few months ago. A full inventory of the (literally) tens of thousands of coins is forthcoming. Here's the one that started it all for me, who knew it was a DDO, rare earring half eagle! Hey dsfreeworld, thanks
I have not had it graded but am sending it to PCGS tomorrow. First became aware of the rare error after countless hours research then first confirmed it informally through an appraisal feature of an app I purchased.
Knowing that was not nearly enough proof, I brought it by a local coin shop here in Brooklyn which has been quite helpful in my recent adventures in numismatics. The proprietor of said establishment examined it closely and gave me further and more acceptable confirmation.
Hopefully PCGS will give final confirmation as well as a semI decent grade. My still developing eye would place it in the AU category I think, but I'm not yet confident to peg a number on it. Glad to speak to you again!

As to what will be done with it, post grading, I'm not quite sure how to go about it yet...I have focused on the fundamentals of numismatics in my study, but haven't ventured so far as the business side of anything yet. People who read my original posts may be happy to know that not a single coin found has been sold or used yet...except maybe a few quarters....but they were from the 90s.
That being said, my wife and I could certainly use extra fiduciary means, with a baby on the way

That is a nice find. It sure looks like a DDO "earring" per CoinFacts.

The Lighting in the pics dull surfaces so it's tough to call the surfaces. The reliefs are certainly high AU if not MS but PCGS graders will determine if a cleaning took place. The DDO will add a premium. What other gems did you uncover?

Looks AU-55 to me. Oh, and by the way, I recommend that you edit your post to not show your email address.

That's quite the collection. Any key dates, better dates, errors, or gold in there?
