I was just looking at some Ike's I picked up last week. I am no expert, but all the 72's look like they are type two reverses. Are all of them that way? Also for those that send in Ike's to be graded ... is there a grade/price point where you will send in BU 40% Ike's? Do they have to me a MS 69/70 to make it worth while?

You will NOT get a 70 grade. I would make the cut off 68.
If memory serves, the 72s are indeed all type two. If memory is wrong I am sure I will be corrected.

Don Your right what was I thinking. I guess I get in the habit of thinking all modern still in OGP will grade high.
I did go ahead and check numismedia ... And see you are also right ....needing to get MS-68 to make it worth while for grading ... Except for 1971 ... MS-67 would be good.
As for the 72's ... I have seven of them in this bunch ... All l look to be type two's. Made me think all the 72's might be ....

While these are "modern" coins, they were produced before the mint REALLY got good at kicking perfect and near perfect coins. The other thing going against Ikes is their design. Huge coin with vast open fields and a large profile that offers plenty of area for even the most minor of dings to scream out at you. I would lay money there will NEVER be an Ike legitimately graded 70.

What makes the normal (non silver) Type 2 1972 Ike's special is that the obverse was struck with a normal die, but the reverse was struck with a proof die. I believe that, yes, all 1972-S Ikes have the Type 2 reverse as well, but that was by design and they are not considered rare or valuable as a result.
