Ive stumbled accross this lovely coin. I know its rare but have little idea of its value or how to go about selling it. Any suggestions? Edited by Dannydnb12 07/02/2014 05:58 am

I think Nobles Auctions would be the best for this coin or IAG on the gold coast they have a good auction it is my preferred buying auction and take a better picture of both sides a bit closer so the boys can grade it for you value any were from 15k to 200k depends on grade so better pictures will be needed

Hard to tell from one picture but I would narrow it down to 15-75K

I think it is a British sovereign rather than the rarer Sydney Mint one. If it has a shield on the other side of the coin it is British (Australia didn't use the design till 1871.) Otherwise it is still a nice coin.

Take it to a coin dealer in the U.K. and verify it is not a fake and then find a good auction house.!! Good Luck.!!

May I ask how on earth did you stumble on such a coin? Judging by the obverse alone it would grade around good Fine (an American VF30) which would rank it as one of the finest known examples of the date.
It looks authentic (the dot after the date is a die marker for this issue). It's not a British half sovereign (the legend of the British half sovereign reads 'VICTORIA DIE GRATIA').
The market is very soft for them at the moment but assuming there's nothing on the reverse that would detract from its value, you should be able to achieve about $80,000.
Can you post up a reverse photo?

Thanks wwwww I got a bit confused with the British design . Otherwise that is quite a legendary coin you have there. Interested to hear how you managed to pick up something so rare?

Wow. It is not often a first time poster shows off a potential $80,000 coin. There has to be a story behind this.

I found it believe it or not in a hidden compartment of an old kids toy I bought at a car boot sale

I starting running a calculation on the odds of the likelihood of that event, but before I could finish, my calculator blew a diode!

In that grade it's as rare as an UNC 1923 half penny.

It was in a vintage dolls house, it explains why its in such good condition, probably hasnt been touched in centuries. The pictures really dont do it justice, to me it seems faultless, no scratches, no wearing, no dents

Sorry I meant no worn away letters/numbers or detailing of the face or hair etc.... I will try post clearer pictures later. I'm a bit shocked as to how much you all think its worth. Who would pay that much for a tiny coin?
