Picked this up at the bank today when I asked if they had any $2 bills. It was in such bad condition that I stuck it in a sleeve before taking a picture of it (and still managed to damage it further while getting it into the sleeve): I"m sure it has no premium in this condition. In fact, I'm not even sure it is still worth $2 in this condition. But I think I'm gonna hold onto it anyway just because it has so much character. Plus, I don't know of any merchant that would be willing to take it as payment...

Monetary value aside, this is a cool little piece of history. I'd take that instead of $2 any day. It makes you wonder, who wrote the number 8 on it? And when? And why...?

Always fun to find red seal two's at the bank. Even better with a star. Nice!

Any merchant who'd accept it, probably not. Not in that condition, not with a red seal (could appear counterfeit), and probably not in general (it's a $2 bill after all; they're all funny money). Value: you'd might stand a chance on ebay, but you'd be the worst one there; otherwise, torn in half, town in eighths, cut into a jigsaw puzzle, less than half burned (alright, you might need to send it directly to the BEP at that point), any bank will take it and give you a new one...so it's still worth $2 (yeah!). Surprised the bank didn't designate the bill to the Fed Shred pile (aren't they also trying to get rid of older money anyway?).

If it were me, I'd put it up for sale at your favorite auction site. My guess is that you may get $10 for it. But who knows?
