westcoin, thanks for the link. My in-laws live not too far from Rutherfordton, and I have panned for gold there. Their facility where they minted their gold coins is long gone, but there is a sign along the highway that talks about Bechtler's history. I don't have any of their coinage, but would definitely like to some time in the future

I've never been in that part of the country, other than layovers at airports, so that doesn't count. Someday though, and I'll pack a gold pan too.

The NC / TN mountains are just beautiful. If you do ever get the chance to visit, you need to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and just drive... You'll definitely be glad you did. Simply breath-taking...

Quote: The NC / TN mountains are just beautiful.  - from the photos I've seen, but mountains? I grew up in the Denver area and my Dad had a condo at a ski area, the Rocky Mountains are mountains, the Sierras are mountains, everything else is just really big hills!

In comparison, yes... But being from FLAT Florida, even small hills qualify as "mountains"
