I got myself a canon D30 reflex camera 17-55 lens After reading the manual 3 times I started out on best quality JPEG ( RAW format to be for later ) Creative program P with Centre metering only ; and burst shooting ( about 38 pics in a row ) The card will take 260 pics at this setting and the battery 750 pics with flash I did a fotoshoot with the dogs and got 16 decent pics out of 50 ( The other they were either showing the back of their head or yawning ) The download to my new laptop was only seconds and the quality all on flash great . So now I have to find out why on a rainy day inside this camera that can do 1600 iso goes to flash or one second exposures in fully auto mode .So that means reading the manual a fourth time . In the meantime I ordered a macro appliance . As is the camera will focus at 28 cm which is 11 inch but the appliance which I suppose is a distancing ring will get me a lot closer ( not that I know I need it) My network between computers will be another 10 days and in the meantime I can find out whether the computer directed shooting is as fickle as reported by SuperDave on the other models . I got a full heavy duty alluminium tripod build 35 years ago and fullspectrum lights from my plant growing days so I am really curious what this set up will do with coins in a capsule and a box

Sounds like a great camera and set-up you've got, Ageka. Keep us informed, and give us some sample pictures soon!
Congratulations.

Thanks I found out that for the simpleminded there is a full automode sight and shoot If you want the creative mode like I have choosen you get autofocus autoflash- auto time set and auto exposure lense opening The ISO value has to be set manually in this mode and is 100 default So I put it to 400 ISO and that looks more like the old reflex I had with solid film in it I tried Zoombrowser and there is nothing zoombrowser can do for me that the camera did not allready do I also got Digital Photo Professional for RAW images which should be better but I did not graduate to RAW yet

I confess to not having a really powerful software package to maniulate photos. I've got Zoombrowser that came with my Canon S3 IS, and Irfanware (a shareware that I had earlier, and then updated with a copy through this site.)

Digital PhotoShop Pro = DPP came for free with the reflex camera Internet evaluations say a RAW pic treated with DPP has a complete different feel from a JPEG with Zoombrowser
My expectations are low though
First I will try installing iphotoplus which I have been using for 6 years on my old computer . It is a win98SE program but I read online that my XP pro computer can generate pseudo 98 criteria
If that is not possible or satisfactory I will go to my brother who got adobe photoshop pro and see whether that is as good as my old iphotoplus program

Save it at lesser quality. Coin Community will downsize whatever you load to 800px anyways, if you're sending larger than that. 80% quality in Photoshop will bring the size down to manageable, without any loss in quality we can see. I can't wait to see the pics.

Ok now this selfsame coin in box after fotoshopping and removing box and I forgot what else I did and this is all on a jpeg which was 2500x2500 approx I will wait with the raw format untill I got a free week I am still waiting for the macro adds I ordered so this is purely out of hand zoomlense since I was too lazy to fetch my alu tripod I was able to get 5 out of 10 quality and still was told I had 75K I wonder why the size stays that big at 500 pix and 76 dpi

Well I am learning that whilst you slab a coin on a scanner that making fots is something entirely different So I made a second foto shoot of 40 pics under a single full spectrum light bulb of 40 watts still no tripod I think the colors are somewhat cold I am still shooting 40pics to have 2 good ones but at continuous shooting with a card that will take 320 pics and a battery that will do more then a thousand before reloading I can afford brute force

So I think I got the best results in full spectrum light and photoshopped to auto color or in spot light with a cold filter 82 attached is the first in autocolor

The camera has several jpeg formats and raw I am doing the shoots in 8 megapixels jpeg which means I suppose that the conversion is done in camera but that it is raw quality So I have great difficulty getting below 90 K without going to 6 or less quality Well I will be back to computer problems for the next week I think shooting with a hot and a cold light together is the next project Does not seem the macro add on I ordered or the tripod is going to do much for me
