Reproductions of Brasher doubloons will be made on site at the ANA convention and offered for sale to raise money for the ANA. Ron Landis of the Gallery Mint will be handling the project. Each will be made with a screw press and then counter-stamped with the "EB" marks afterwards. Looks like an interesting project and a great way to raise money.

Made out of gold plated bronze, they would then be available to a larger range of collectors. It would be about the only way most of us would be able to get hold of a Brasher Doubloon! They would be easily be able to identify by weight, and STILL be a very accurate copy. It would have been a more honest way to go.

Because the reproductions are made out of gold, they will be not be as widely available; I consider that to be a pity. I would be only tempted, if they were offered at a very minimum premium over the spot gold price. I would hope they are easily identified as reproductions.

with offering them in a base metal as well, but it is Ron Landis doing the working dies and minting them, so I know they will be clearly marked as reproductions. His Gallery Mint work was so good, many coin have been passed off, after damaging the COPY mark as to be unreadable, as the real deal. When he created early copper copies, he did so right down to Sheldon numbers. He is a super nice guy, and extremely talented. My good buddy Mike Ellis worked for them until Joe passed away and they closed down the Gallery Mint. I met Ron at various ANA Summer Seminars and ANA conventions, always a pleasure to see him, and he is very giving with information about early minting processes.
