Hello all again, remember my 1995-P DDO, Possible new find? Well here is an up-date on my submission to John A. Wexler and he wrote me via email below... Quote:Hello Edward, Bill Gibbs of Coin World forwarded to me some photos of a possible new 1995 Lincoln Cent obverse doubled die since I write the "Varieties Notebook" column for that publication. What I see in the photos does indeed appear to be a new obverse doubled die variety for the 1995 Lincoln cents. To confirm that it is a new variety, assign it a listing number, and shoot the appropriate photos of the doubling and significant die markers, I would need to see the actual coin. If you are willing to send the coin, please mail it to: John A. Wexler P.O. Box 544 Quakertown, PA 18951-0544 I would recommend shipping it in a padded mailer and insured for $300. When it is properly identified and recorded, I will gladly feature it in my Coin World column. John A. Wexler I look forward to my new variety find (I hope) Thanks for the advise CCF to tell me to send it in to have it checked if its a new variety find, so I did. Now I wait. Thanks 52raymo, my first find as a new variety. I am excited. I just need PCGS or NGC to recognize it as a variety if it actually comes back as a DDO so I can get it graded as one. Then UP for SALE at Heritage Auction, http://www.ha.com not ebay.

. If it's sanctioned (and indeed looks like it will be once in hand), 19 years in the making. Wondering how many 1995s I've looked at LIBERTY and not IGWT. Did I let one get through? I hope not.

Thank you all, my first find of a new discovery. I spoke to PCGS and NGC about recognizing it as a variety after its published and it will be up to the grader without it being in the CherryPickers Guide and a couple others, however it will be worth a shot. My question is; what would it be worth if one one of this variety exists for now? Thank god its in high grade and from a Fresh roll I opened using my gloves.

ANACS will probably label it, as long as it is listed by John Wexler first. They might even give it a "Discovery Piece" label if you ask them too and provide documentation showing it is a discovery coin. On something like this, it is going to be hard for anyone to give you a value right now. ebay auction would be your best bet to find out, but it would need to be a listed variety to get the true value from it. Having it graded before selling would be a big plus if it is high grade. Personally, I would keep this one. It has been 19 years since this doubled die variety was struck and you were the first one to identify it. Who knows how many actually exist. In the future others will be searching for these and the more that are found the less value it will have to "rarity" collectors. Only time will tell.

John Wexler told you to insure it for $300 when you send it in. That seems like a good estimate for a BU ungraded DDO coin. It is probably higher than it would actually bring in ungraded condition but, it is a good estimate for insurance purposes.

Just noticed - but is your DDO the one pictured in the Red Book (pg 124, 2014 ed)?
