I went to a coin show today, and several dealers were selling copper rounds. True, it is a minimal risk. They are available for about $1 if you look, and were being sold from $2 to $4. Are these worth inventorying for these sellers? I had not considered it, but they must be selling. I would not think a real collector would even consider them.

Me personally wouldn't waste my time collecting copper rounds because I don't think of copper as a PM.... But others might collect them so I say to each is his/her own....

My dad does, although he pays much less than a dollar for them. He pays closer to bullion value.

Wholesale $.93-$1.00. Retail for $2.95 to $3.95. Not a bad mark-up especially at that price point.

Most collect for the designs only. The generics turn me off, but a nice, clean imagenary design gets my attention.

I certainly don't. If you like the art work go for it. The price is low enough you might as well get it if you like it.

However, most of the inventory is left over from the "poor mans silver" phase when silver went high. I didn't see any of these around then all the sudden, you saw them everywhere. Add to that the people were posting threads everyday about how copper is a precious metal, and the hype, and the drama, and THUNDERDOME! I got tired of them before I ever got the chance to buy one.

Okay, not technically true, I just remembered I have a Lakota Tribe Sitting Bull half oz. copper round. But I purchased that because I got the silver round first and like the design. (The obverse design, the reverse design is rather lacking in aesthetics).

One thing to remember is that copper, not being a precious metal is sold by the pound, not by the oz. So if you are 'investing,' even a dollar is going to be above spot price.

Sometimes sellers throw them into my purchases for free with items I buy from ebay. Other than that I have never really looked twice at them.
