I know there are alot of penny hunters out there and I am just wondering what you prefer searching? I am wondering what you think you have better odds of finding rare coins in either back coin machine bags or boxes? I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks and happy hunting

I have no experience with machine bags. I've only gotten boxes for the past 4 years. I have about 4000 wheats from the time I've started Click Clacking (crhing). 1000 of those wheats came from 4 boxes that my son and I went through. That was the Yahtzee of all Yahtzee's for me and my son(Wheat Penny-wise)!!

I have never gotten a bag in three years of coin roll hunting. I figure the results of bags vs. boxes should be about the same though. But any bag searchers feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Rest in Peace

Can you tell us where these boxes came from?

I do both at times, but mostly bags. I have hit big on both. I think bags are may e a little better because you get the whole dump if someone dumps a load of good stuff. You can also end up with someone's dump of gone through coins. That can be alleviated by befriending the tellers and have them tell you some coin collected dumped his rejects.

Im with CoinCbass. Bags offer the chance to get someones whole dump. That is how I ended up with 20 or so steelies in one bag once. I think your chances are roughly the same in bag or box. One benefit of the bag is that it makes more interaction with a teller. Tellers are your best friend.

Both.

I don't get bags much as there is only one coin machine within 75 miles of me and I use it as a dump. A couple years back I stopped dumping in the coin machine for a couple month period as I was dumping in a coinstar for a kindle for my wife and a kindle for my kids. During that time I purchased the bags off of the machine. After pulling out some dimes, It was very easy to pour into my Ryedale. If there was another coin counter in the area I would definitely buy the bags for ease of emptying into the Ryedale and the bonus of getting free dimes. My only 1909 vdb came from one of those bags.

There are plenty of rare coins in boxes. I have found 15 Indian heads to date out of Brinks boxes (just found my 15th, have to post a picture of it in a couple days in the cents forum).

I only do boxes, and find about 15 wheats per box.

Those boxes came from B.O.A. I came home with 2 boxes, when we started opening the first box I realized I made a mistake in only getting two boxes. So while my 5yr old was opening rolls with 8-12 wheats a roll, I went back to the same bank an asked them for the rest of their penny boxes which happened to be 2 more. That was a fun day!
Rest in Peace

Wow! You really did luck out. Most us will only get 8-12 per box.

bpoc1,

This is the worst thing about that whole thing. My son used to click clack with me all the time before that. After that he was spoiled. He went through a few rolls after that Huge Score and didn't find any wheats, so he lost interest. He still comes up to me and asks if I found any good ones, but he doesn't search with me anymore.

But wait there is another..... A couple of months ago I heard some click clacking noise in my living room. I came out there and found my 2 year old daughter opening penny rolls on our couch!!

I had a tear in my eye!
