I just thought that it would be cool to hear how every one got so into CRH? My story on how I get into it was I was just taking an ordinary trip to my local Mcdonalds and in my change was this strange looking dime. After getting home and researching dimes a little I found out it was a MERC. I was then so intrigued that I started searching the web more and stumbled upon this site. Ever since that day I have been addicted to coins and the love of searching.

I was looking at old coins that I had, and wanted to know how to get more. I then found out about CRHing.

I found a dollar that had a star on the end of the serial. That lead to serial number hunting which lead to youtube videos of coin roll hunters - here I am.

We gotta go way back, early 1970's. Gramma gave my brother and I one silver dime each. We both took our silver dimes up town, and bought candy. Gramma scolded us when we came back. She explained those mercs were silver...I got, my brother, too young to understand. Gramma gave me silver dimes she found at here job at the rural post office. Later, as a senior in high school, I noticed full-page adds in the newspaper. SILVER AT ALL TIME HIGH PRICES-SELL US YOUR SILVER! Pushing $50 an oz, it seemed normal to me to hit the banks in 1979, I was 16. I didn't find much, because there wasn't much to be found. There were lines outside coin shops to sell silver. We threw the 40% back and they laughed at War Nickels then. 90% was bought by weight, something I've seen in the present with $40+ silver. I never really shook the urge to roll hunt in over 35 years.

I liked coins as a kid , influenced by my father and grandfather, and saved any silvers I came across. My first job out of college was working as a commercial bank teller. I couldn't believe what people turned in (about 10 years ago) and found silver weekly. I figured that while ordering the weekly cash order for the branch I would include a box or two of halves for myself. I miss the days of finding 30-40 silvers per box on average! I have many great finds from those days.

I started with pennies at first about 4 years ago. Then I did nickels, then I hit the halves hard. I was doing $4000 to $10000 in halves a week. Just 4 years ago there were tons of silver coins. You would hit 20 to 50 in a box of $500 sometimes. Just think about how many people are click clacking half dollars these days! I didn't even know about this forum until about 2 1/2 months ago! I can't imagine how many are doing it but I can tell the scores aren't as big as they use to be. I'm hook for life though, there's no hope for me, I'll be click clacking coins till I die! I'm telling you this is the most addictive thing ever. I can't drive by a bank and not wonder should I stop and ask if they have any halves?! The worst thing about it is when you do score a big hit, you're not satisfied!! You want more!! I'm laying in bed writing this rant and all I can think about is what bank am I hitting tomorrow. CAN I GET AN AMEN?!

i dont know how it truly began as I was a child. Neither of my parents were into it. I guess I just liked the concept. I had my mom going to the bank to get me rolls as a kid, with my money. still love the concept.

My grandfather introduced me to coin collecting about 30 years ago. I did it for a year or so, then I became interested in girls, got a job after school, a car, dates, etc. so I lost interest in coins. Last year during another cold, dark, snowy winter I needed to burn up some free time, so decided I should put together Kennedy half dollar collections for my kids given the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination. I googled half dollars and CRH-ing popped up. I have looked through 53 boxes to date and found only about 2 rolls of silver, but I enjoy it nonetheless. My kids' half collections (the clad coins anyway) are almost complete, but even when the collections are complete I plan to keep looking through halves now and then because I enjoy it...nickels are next!

I can't exactly remember how. I think I started some ten years ago, doing the onesy-twosy thing with rolls. I'd find a keeper every now and then, and then spend the rest. In January 2011 I bought my first box of pennies, and have since done one box of each denomination, with the exception of pennies.....I'm on my third box of those. Believe it or not, I don't like rolling up coins to return to a dump bank, but it's something I've done before. I have the coins separated by denomination in cigar boxes and each day I reach into them for change to spend. I have discovered that the self-checkout at Walmart Neighborhood Market is a good way to get rid of $10-$12 in change for small purchases. I figure I'll have exhausted my supply of quarters soon and can go back to roll searching of them before too long.

It all started when I pulled all the money from my piggy bank when I was young. I lined the coins up in chronological order, and kept the dates I had. My grandfather an avid coin collector heard what I had done from my mother and coached me up on dates, grade, mint marks, etc. he then sent me my first Lincoln Cent folder. Once I had placed them all in I asked him the best way to gather more and he suggested CRH. I was about ten at the time and with some breaks for the military, College, and starting a family I still get that itch to search for treasure! Tricky Mick

My grandfather helped me search quarters to fill my States folder. A few years later I decided to try it with cents, and I've been addicted ever since.

I found a 1917 Wheat penny in my changer at work, and thought to myself...'Wow I wonder what other old coins are out there!' So I started coin roll hunting 'FedWrapped' a box of dimes! and found 2 Silver Dimes! hahah the funny part is my manager found out the next day and told me I can only open Customer Wrapped coins from that day on. That's ok though I still find a decent amount :) Sorry for the paragraph!
