came across this recently, don't see much in the way of US coins in my day to day here in the UK and thought there must be a story behind it of some sort.

Most silver colored Lincolns are the result of being plated. I have found a few in circulation.

That said it is kinda strange for the plating to wear off and just remain in a central stripe (both sides). There doesn't seem to be much (any) wear on the coin itself so I would say I have no clue.

Here's one of the ones I found...pic is kind of weak (color balance off on the reverse) but you get the idea....next to a normal one

And there is still cartwheel luster, so doesn't seem to be plated? Maybe its an unplated zinc cent.

Seeing the new pics confirms my plated comment....I was just thrown off by the color reflection.
