Thought this was pretty cool - there's an Ike dollar concealment device in the CIA museum. You can see it in the slideshow of images in the article. I'll upload the image here - there is an unexpected picture of a dead mouse in that slideshow that some people might not want to view, so be wary if you click on the slideshow. Here's the article: http://news.yahoo.com/inside-the-se...4208409.html 'Silver Dollar' Hollow Container This coin may appear to be an Eisenhower silver dollar, but it is really a concealment device. It was used to hide messages or film so they could be sent secretly. Because it looks like ordinary pocket change, it is almost undetectable. (Courtesy of the Central Intelligence Agency)

Very cool. ......and yet they called it a silver dollar! It always bothers me when they call every large dollar/ SBA a silver dollar. Yes it is really a nickname but it bothers me a lot. Anyone can see that it's obviously copper-nickel. Since when did silver look so copper?

Quote: Because it looks like ordinary pocket change, it is almost undetectable. Except an Ike was never really "ordinary pocket change". Quote: Wish we could get our hands on some of these Shouldn't be too hard to do. A little practice with a metal lathe and you could probably make your own.

Thanks guys. I've never seen any "hollow" modern coins before!

Cool. Unless you're a spy there's not really anything you could put in there. If it was a little wider it could be a mint tin or something!

Do I see a way for the mint to reduce metal content in coins? Hollow coins, a thing of the future!
