Hi everyone, I want to start collecting US Dollar coins (only $1,00 coins). I am thinking about first collecting the years 2000-2010. But I live in Holland, that is my problem. I have search the whole ebay.com and also UK, NL, and Germany. But if I enter the search string "1 dollar 2000", I don't get the coin that I am looking for. Also other years are hard to get... Do you guys know some websites/webshops where I can buy US coins, with not a too high shipping price? I hope that you'll understand my question/problem. Many thanks in advance. Kind Regards, Rik

Rik - It's not clear to me what series from the period you want to focus on. There's the Sacagawea dollars, the Presidential dollars, and the commemorative dollars (90% silver) - all are readily available on ebay. I think your biggest problem will be the number of ebay sellers in the U.S. who won't ship internationally.

@John1: I am going to try your search phrase. Thanks!
@Lucky Cuss: I'm just looking for the 2000 until 2010 coins that are/were in circulation in those years. So not a 1981 US Dollar, but just a dollar from 2001->2002 and so on.
So that is what I am looking for... Greetings, Rik
PS. I have just got started with my collection ;)

All the coins I mentioned have been minted during your specified period. However, dollar coins barely circulate in the U.S. even though it's the intent (and fervent wish) of the gov't that they are to be so employed. The only one you see used at all (and at that, rarely) in everyday commerce is the Sacagawea, although theoretically the Presidential series could also be encountered.

Ah, okay I got it. So 1 dollar coins aren't used much in the States? Can I better take a look for quarters or dimes?
Thanks for your quick reply! Greetings, Rik

Quote: Can I better take a look for quarters or dimes? I'd suggest starting off by assembling a set of the fifty Statehood Quarters (1999-2009) - much more interesting than the dimes.

Okay, thanks for the tip, Lucky Cuss. Can you give me a link about those quarters? But still, I need a good resource website (i.e. ebay) for buying coins. Maybe shoud I look in my home country (Holland), or Germany or so... Kind Regards, Rik

Thanks for your message, RfKtNNe87dDwas. But Nick's coins has, as most other sellers in the USA, a very high shipping fee to The Netherlands. Quote: $17.11 International Priority Shipping to Netherlands I hope there are cheaper solutions...

There is nothing wrong with the dollar coins, but it is true that they aren't used as much in circulation. Neither are the half dollar coins. For dollars coins in the 2000-2010 range, you have Sacagawea dollars start in the year 2000 and are still running as a series. In 2007, they also started a series of "presidential" dollar coins that feature 4-5 of our past presidents per year. So if you wanted a 10 year set of dollars spanning the decade, only the Sacagawea dollars makes sense. Here's a link to the ebay category: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Native-Amer...dollar+coinsAnother option, and my favorite coins of the era are the Kennedy half dollar Proof coins with the Cameo finish. They are currently the largest circulating American coins and have an impressive eagle design on the reverse. You can buy them in Silver or non-silver options depending on how much you want to invest in the set. The State Quarters are a large set (50 coins times multiple mint marks) that start in 1999 and run through 2008 and it could be expensive to pay international shipping on so many small items.

Rik, I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find Statehood Quarters offered on ebay NL, or in coin shops there. They have been minted in very large quantities. However, the ideal thing would be to lay your hands on some mixed quarter rolls, and search those to make up your the set, rather than buying the coins individually. I'd check with JPMorgan Chase Bank PO Box: Strawinskylaan 3077 Amsterdam-1077 ZX Netherlands to see if they could order up some such for you.

Okay, I am going to take a look at Statehood Quarters. Also I think I am going to collect coins that are more available on ebay, like Dutch Guilders or some Euro sets... That's also a nice collection area Again, many thanks for all the help from everyone here. Greetings, Rik
