I order and pay, then forget about it. When something shows up in the mail my first reaction is "What the heck is this?"

You guys are lucky, I live in Dubai so the minimum wait time for a normal registered mail (which costs lots of bucks) is 1-2 weeks, sometimes it takes up to a month.

I don't really buy coins but do get the same kind of excitement when I order boxes of coins from the bank.

It is like Christmas Eve as a kid. Add to the lack of trust in many of these delivery systems because they sjut don't care because it is only things, rela people aren't actually waiting for things, then the good anxiety turns to bad. USPS jsut left a priority mail packages (not a small thing) sitting on the ground beside my mailbox at the road before. I watch for stuff like a hawk now and always check because they are too lazy to even bother coming to a door or even have the time to wait after ringing the bell for someone that might be in the bathrom and can't just run to answer the door 24/7. Because again. it isn't real people they are dealing with, we are all just robots that are supposed to sit around all day and wait for them but they never have to wait for anything. Just count to 3 and go to the next one.

Quote: but they never have to wait for anything. Just count to 3 and go to the next one But they are under time pressure to complete their routes by a set time. Also in recent years the post office, in order to save money, have been lengthening or consolidating routes as mailmen retire rather than replacing them and that increases the time pressure.

Normally I am a very patient person except when I'm waiting on a package. My postman is like EndTheFed's. I sometimes end up watering my front lawn for about 4 hours waiting.

Yeah, the last thing I ordered came a couple of days ago, and I haven't opened it yet just to get a little extra mileage out of it. Otherwise I'll be depressed 'til I order something else. I'm very shallow, yes I know

Lot of great replies here! It's very interesting to here about the post in Dubai & Australia. A bike! Wow. The sad thing is I've grown kind of addicted to the thrill (I feel ya, not opening the package Edweather). So now I don't have anything in transit & was up until 4am pouring over auctions just to capture another slice of excitement. Nothing really striking my fancy, I'm debating grabbing a 2002 mint proof set (just for the Indiana quarter proof) but it's a clad set. I'd really like to get a silver proof if the price is right. I can't justify paying +$40 for a quarter... even if it is PCGS PR70. I sense a clad set in my future.

This thread is hilarious, especially Dar's response. Waiting for coins to come in the mail is like anticipating Christmas. The thrill I get when they finally arrive is, well, an addiction in and of itself.

I think we can all admit to the thrill of waiting for your coins to arrive (or any package for that matter)! My trusted online coin dealer does not provide tracking information so I go through the "Calculate Shipping Costs" thing on USPS to figure out when I can expect it to get here Tracking something for the RCM or the US Mint is a lot easier, but then again I have to check it constantly throughout the day.

Seems like everyone is in the same boat here. Me? My name is Fireman638 and I have an addiction. Coins are my crack lol. In our little village of 450 people there are no coin clubs, no coin shops, and no coin shows. Closest shop is three hours away, so I always have one or two coming from online orders. I have to space out my orders so something is always coming. The couple of times I have had my orders arrive and suddenly realized everything was here with nothing ordered....and withdrawal started. I needed to hurry up and place another order to fill the void. Sitting back and reading the responses I realized all of you have a problem. Glad I don't have any of the issues you all do.
Wait....I just realized my last order just came in and nothing else is en route....gotta go!
