Here's an 1842-CC (That's right - Carson City) Seated Liberty Silver Dollar, clearly listed as a copy in the auction, that is still bid up to $172.50.

Go figure.

Just goes to show you that people don't read the descriptions even when it is only four words.

Maybe CC means 'Copy of a Copy' ?

I can't feel sorry for the winner of the auction. If they didn't read the description maybe they should have known that Carson City was not operating in 1842.

Listing was removed though. Looks like ebay is atleast putting effort into stopping these sorts of sales. The Carson city mint didn't even open until 1870. You'd think that someone who's willing to put $200 into a coin would know that.

They may have known exactly what they were doing.

When I checked the listing it had about a minute to go and ticked down to zero and finished normally.

When I click the link in the OP it takes me to the auction that lists the coin, has the sold banner across the corner of the coin and shows a winning bid of $172.50

I'd say the auction went to completion and someone either doesn't plan on paying, or is going to be very unhappy someday.

I'm still waiting for a 2014-CC Dollar on ebay.

Bidding should be fierce for that one.

the fact that the coin isn't marked as "copy" makes the sale illegal, right?

Great idea Dave - I'm just about to sell mine. CC means Calvin Coolidge - right?
