Hey I just won 2 of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/1776-1976-U...p=true&rt=ncfor about 14 bucks each. With the great condition theyre in, would it be worthwhile to maybe have them graded? I've been on an ike phase for a bit from reading the other IKE thread about ordering form banks. Just curious on your guys opinions as I'd love to see them graded, but at the same time can keep them together if it will benefit more that way?

Also, Are there Silver (40% and/or 90%) Ikes in 1972 outside of the S mintmark? My Red Book says no, but guy on ebay is claiming it is.

I don't think it will be worth it in the long run as grading them will cost more then the sets did and most likely not get more out of it. Others may think differently but I generally don't get coins graded. And I also like keeping mine together as sets.

Yeah I've never even sent something to be graded my self. I've just been lookin at some things pulled from sets and graded going for nice prices once certified.

No, there are no 40% silver Ikes without the S mintmark (except for a couple known errors). No 90% Ikes were ever minted.

I would be pretty happy with that buy. I have two in a red mint envelope ( not sure about the Independence Hall envelope), and they look to be valued around 20/25 dollars each. Good buy in my book.

We only see a small portion of the rim, but I'm not seeing silver clad; I'm seeing silver plated.

To answer the original question, even if they graded ms66, which is probably unlikely, you'd barely make back the cost of grading. Enjoy them as-is, keep them in the same condition and if the value of those coins ever rise you can get them graded then.

Do not bother with having them graded. Enjoy them as they are, they are very nice. Quote: "proof of silver" Proof that the seller does not know what they have, so avoid buying anything from them.

I bought it for 1.54 free shipping, just wanted to add to my ike collection :D told him IF it was silver, the silver hunters on ebay woulda swallowed my bid up. I'm fine with the price I paid on it. And thanks for the info on the grading them. I did end up buying a silver 3 piece proof set on top of those 2 other sets I bought!

If the 1972 is silver, you probably have a coin worth at least 5 figures. So if you even think it might be silver, don't mess with it and send it immediately to a TPG. Who knows, rarities have been found dealer's junk boxes.
