Hello, I discovered this beat up two dollar coin in change today and noticed a second rim in one area on the obverse side. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Hey brett509. I have noticed this lately in a lot of my noodling through the work tills. I believe it is just PMD where the edges have rolled over from large amounts of wear.
Thats my opinion any way, If this isn't the case I'm very interested as I have got a few good examples in my collection of this.
I don't think it's PMD, I've seen practically brand new coins the same. Having said that, it was very common on 1999 coins, some even had a bit of the reeding showing at the edge. It occurs on other years also, but I can't remember which just at present.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved
