hey guys I'm very new to coins and have just been looking through my family collection this coin is in the bad condition but the red color really stood out and intrigued me. the scan doesn't show the full brightness of the red.

Agreed, probably sat in the bottom of a metal container for many years.

The red color is due to the formation of cuprous oxide while the black color is most likely cupric oxide.
