Months worth of searching. 25 Wars came out of them. The 2 dime boxes were skunks. Looking forward to next month.

carloscoria,
Thanks for sharing. By my calculations, $28.83 of silver at today's ask price. Makes me think that this level of effort ("months") is on the verge of becoming not worth the time spent.

Classic Coins, you are probably right. Each box represents about an hour of time spent away from bed, family, TV or excersize. One thing I do know is that I have the silver that I did not have a month ago. Most of it was grabbed on the way home from work as well as dumping. I am feeling a bit of burn out but that is quickly erased for the time being when a War Nickel comes out. I set my self a goal of 100 boxes we shall see if I can make it. Then again winter will be here soon and I will need something to do.

I have gotten boxes of small dollars for the $1000 they cost, but $2800 worth of nickels and having to spend them all? I have a hard time spending a single box of dimes, and the nickels I use 2 rolls a week for lottery tickets, and maybe one for a Sunday Newspaper. 16 weeks per box of nickels * 28 boxes. Yeah I couldn't do that! I am just curious what the banks said and how many you had to get them from? Also, how did you manage to get all Loomis boxes? EDIT: Oh wait! These are empty boxes.

These boxes are from Wells which in my general area the is 4 branches within a 8 mile radius. Some tellers give me the "you are a weirdo" look and some are really nice to me and do not give me any flack about it. Also this is spread out over a months time, about 6 boxes a week Max and never have more than 2 boxes on hand. So I search 2 boxes, dump, them and start all over again.

Shadz, you are aware that there are much easier ways to get rid of one's searched coin, other than spending it, right?
NICE Haul Carlos, yes it's an effort, but effort goes into all of one's hobbies.

What am I supposed to do, take it back and ask for cash to buy groceries with, then no longer have access to boxes of coins?

Here's what I do.
Run my coin remnants through the bank's coin counter, get cash, pay for new box.
Or, take coin up to teller, and get cash in exchange.. It really is that simple.

Shadz, You've probable heard about dump banks, right? You dump coins at one bank and you pickup at multiple banks. I have 10 banks I get boxes from, I have 2 banks I dump coins at. I never pickup coin boxes at the dump bank and I never dump coins at the Pickup Banks!

Carloscoria, How many 1938's,1939's, buffalos, etc did you find other than your 25 War Nickels?

Carlos,
Look for key dates also- the 1950d and 1939d/s are worth way more than way nickels!!
Shadz,
I just take my hundreds of dollars of nickels and cents and dump them in the free coin counter at navy federal, and it gets deposited right into my account. Rinse lather repeat!

Dump banks and free coin counters are luxuries not found in all places. Why do people think they are everywhere? It is a useful technology or service that actually helps people. This violates the old-fogie traditions of some places that are too lazy to adapt to new things and/or are just lazy to learn the new things. So yeah, those don't exist within a 100 mile radius of me. Glad you all live in the 10 major cities int he country that have those luxuries though.

Shadz,
Just talk to the tellers at your local banks see what would be the best way to deposit large quantities of coin at their bank. That's what I did and I lived in Po-dunk Idaho. For a while I had to re-wrap my coins then I talked to the banks and found out a US bank two towns over had a coin counter behind the counter that only tellers etc.. could use. If all else fails be truthful and talk to people. It would be a haul but I would save up my coins and make the run every couple of weeks, I wouldn't take it all I would roll some so that I didn't wear out my welcome. Maybe there is an option that you still have yet to explore? Maybe you should buy a coin counter/separator to aid in your re-rolling?

Great advice Mick, what it comes down to is that one must put forth the effort. Amazing things can happen!
