I've had a coin collection for a few years now, and I haven't really done anything with it. I want to get back into it. Now, my question is, What are some good and reliable websites to get coins from? From Fine to Very fine condition

The coins I would like to obtain are

US 2 cent coins

3 cent Silver Trimes

Liberty Seated half dimes

Liberty Seated dimes

And eventually a CC Morgan silver dollar.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

FrostBite

You can get a wide selection of those items on ebay, but make sure to ask on CCF if you're not sure if it is the real deal or not when you buy them raw. Many counterfeit CC Morgans have been spotted on ebay, as well as other classic American coinage.

to CCF. Are you looking for raw or slabbed?

Given you said "eventually a CC Morgan silver dollar", I take it you're not looking for high-grade, expensive material? I'd definitely recommend ebay. Just watch out for counterfeit material and cleaned/problem coins. By all means, post them up here after you buy them to get input, and don't become disenchanted if you make a mistake. Learning through your mistakes is a part of the hobby.

Take your time and also visit your local coin shop. After 2 weeks and 50 posts you can also put up a want list.

We can better assist you if you post your budget for each coin. Depending on what coins you already have, you might want to consider starting a 7070 type set.

1. Keep away from ebay unless you really know what your doing.
2. Don't mess with places like Craigslist either. Same reason.
3. I suggest you take time and look up coin shows. Just go to Google or Yahoo and type in coin shows and your state.
4. Coin stores are OK but again only if you know what your doing.
5. Acquire a copy of the Red Book and get familiar with Numismedia on the internet for prices.
6. Stick around this web site and eventually you can buy from members. Lot more trustworthy than ebay.
7. Use the Search tab in this forum for topics like coin dealers, coin shops, coin shows, etc.

Welcome to the CCF. Generally, it's wise to avoid impulse buying, so take your time. ebay is a minefield, but knowledge will help you step in the right places.

Look for an area coin club(s). Make friends at the local coin shop(s). In general, network with other collectors. See what coin books are available at your local library. I humbly suggest that you not hesitate to invest time and effort but do hesitate to spend much money until you can make very informed decisions. Mistakes can quickly lead to discouragement in this hobby. Happy hunting!
