Would this fetch a premium, or is the toning just disturbing? Only toning on one side.

I'd pay a premium for it. Nice toning.

That's nice toning and on a key-date ASE. I think you'll get a very nice premium on this one. I'm not much for paying anything but minimal premium for bullion but I'm sure you can get a good price from a bullion collector.

I think you would get a premium. What does the reverse look like? I have a great deal of trouble telling the difference between natural and artificial toning so I personally would not buy a toned coin. It looks nice though. Just wondering if it will continue to tone? John1

The reverse is blast white. This coin came in a folder, which wasn't airtight on one of the sides, so it's common to see toning on '96 ASEs here in Norway, but this one was quite spectacular. Usually it is only some light blue/red around the right edge, not half of the coin. I think it should sell it as ASE Red, White and Blue! hehe

well, I guess I would be a naysayer, but, I wouldn't pay a premium for any modern coin just because of toning.

After all my years of coin collecting I still can't figure out how you can get a mint coin and alter it's look with chemicals to make it more valuable. There's something screwy about this toning business that I don't understand. :)

Is this worth more than $0.01 now?

This coin has not, as far as I know, been altered in anyway. It's been stuck in a folder since 1997. Stuck in a non-pvc-plastic holder, inside some cardboard. If that is considered as chemical altering, all coins with toning is altered in a way.

It's not artificial at all. Natural toning.

Hmmm my first thought was artificial toning but being in a folder with cardboard since 1997 it very well may be natural. Its still a nice looking coin and yes it does deserve a premium for its tone. People who love toned coins will pay a premium. Looking closely at the coin especially the rim and the date I now believe that the toning is natural.

Is Liberty leading the darkness to overtake the light? What kind of witchcraft is this!? Wonder if it continues to tone the sun will go down and the moon will appear behind her?
